Mouse and Trackpad Practice
Solitaire is a calm way to practise the three moves every computer user needs. Try each exercise below as often as you like, then play a real game. Free, with no signup and no ads.
Practice
- Click
- Double-click
- Drag
Click the card once to turn it over. With a keyboard: Tab to the card and press Enter.
Then play a real game
When the exercises feel easy, play a real game.
- Open a game with the Play a real game button at the end of the exercises.
- In the toolbar above the cards, choose 1 for Draw 1, the gentler version where one card turns over at a time.
- Click a card to move it to a place where it fits, or drag it there yourself.
- Made a mistake? Undo takes back your last move, as often as you need (the last 150 moves are kept).
- To make the cards bigger, zoom in with Ctrl and + (⌘ and + on a Mac). At 150% zoom they are half as large again.
Using a keyboard instead of a mouse
Press Tab to move between cards and buttons, then Enter or Space to play the card you are on, just like a click. Ctrl+Z undoes a move and Ctrl+Enter starts a new game (on a Mac, use ⌘ instead of Ctrl). The practice exercises below work the same way.
For instructors
The exercises suit a 20 to 30 minute session for learners who are new to a mouse or trackpad. There is nothing to install and no account to create, so a class can start from one link.
- Open vsolitaire.com/en/practice/mouse-skills on each computer.
- Work through Click, Double-click and Drag. Each exercise can be repeated with its Again button.
- Play one game of Draw 1 Solitaire, using Undo freely.
- Give out the one-page handout to take home.
